Socialist Organiser

The weekly of the fused Workers Socialist League, July 1981 to April 1984

About this site

A finding aid for Socialist Organiser in the years of the fused Workers Socialist League, not an edition of it.

The League fused with the International-Communist League in July 1981. The fused League's weekly, Socialist Organiser (also the paper of the wider Socialist Organiser Alliance), is here from the fusion, no. 45 (11 July 1981), to no. 175 (19 April 1984), the first issue after the National Committee expelled 36 members of the League's original leadership and their supporters on 14 April 1984. Conference upheld the expulsions on 30 June–1 July, and the Democratic Centralist Faction resigned on 8 July. ETOL's scans misdate or misfile a few issues and pages; the paper's own mastheads and running heads are followed, and each correction is noted on its issue. Its scans are at the Encyclopedia of Trotskyism On-Line and are linked, not copied. The League's internal bulletins are not published here.

This site is the companion of the Workers Socialist League archive and is built with it; it is a separate site only because the two together exceed what one site can hold.

The text

The scans carry no usable text of their own. The text here was read from them in October 2026 by machine (macOS Vision, reading each column separately) and has not been corrected. For anything you quote, read the scan. Alan Thornett's pieces, signed with his name or as Bill Peters, are linked to their proofed texts on thornett.redmole.org.
