A stride forward for multinational trade unionism was how the T&G Record welcomed a meeting of General Motors union representatives from 2U countries. The General Motors World Auto Council met in Michigan and drew up a ten point list of world bargaining objectives. The need for solidarity was stressed and strong arguments were put against workers in one country accepting low wages because of the bosses' pleas about competition and lower labour ›ther countries.

Good fighting stuff and a welcome break from the short-sighted nationalism that infects the British trade union movement.

So, will we be seeing the T&G spearheading a fight against any attempt to tell British car workers that their interests lie with British bosses against the workers of other countries? Well.... turn to the back page of the Record for a reminder of the T&G lobby of Parliament calling for a halt to car imports.
