WHEN I wrute about the FT's conference, 'Private Health Care in the 1980's' in last week's SO, I had no idea just how powerful my pen was.
Atter my article was printed, I learnt that the ET has cancelled their conference.
was amazed and astounded. Just by writing this article, had I persuaded the FT to cancel? Had I stopped Norman (flexibte) Fowler from speaking? Had I deprived the conference delegates of their cocktails and lunches for which they had paid their enormous fee?
Well, it turns out that it wasn't me (I never really believed it was anyway, but a bloody feud of BUPA, Private Patients Plan and Western Provident against Dr. Stanley Balfour-Lynn, Chairman of the commercial , huspital corporation that owns the Hariey street Clinic and five ot' r private hospitals.
Apparently BUPA, PPP and WP pulled out from the conférence as a protest at the inclusion of BalfourLynn. This led, to the FT cancelling it on the basis that they weren't having une pressure group dietating to them!
Do I detect division. in their ranks? Probably not for long, as no doubt this despicable conference will still take place at. some time.
