The re-election of the Tory goverment means that the Police and Criminal Evidence Bill will be reintroduced soon with virtual certainty of being passed.
The Bill contains provisions which are a special threat to gay people: police will be able to arrest people to prevent them causing an "affront to public men are unfit to bring children. children. decency" (so for us to show affection in public becomes an arrestable offence); police will have legal powers to carry out intimate body searches on peop- AIDS. le they've arrested (which will be used to check for evidence of buggery and to harass and degrade gay people); and the powwers police will have to search need to organise. the records of gay advice agencies will mean that gay people turning to these agencies could find themselves on police records.

THE STRIKE by 400 workers at Greenings in Warrington is now in its 13th week. The employers have sacked them, but the strike - to stop the company making 89 redundant, imposing a cut in holidays, and withdrawing trade union facilities - is still solid.
200 turned out on June 6 to a mass picket on the gates when the company offered to reinstate' any worker who would scab.
The workers are now convinced, having listened to what management itself says, that the company know they, are beaten and that. their main objeçt now is to stop the trade unionists from appearing to have gained the victory. Arthur Conheny told us. "This disgusting attitude shows the shallowness of local management when people's jobs are at stake".
The company now threatens closure. But the strikers dismiss this as a "hollow threat" and promise mass pickets if they try it.
